Janae specifically acknowledges the harm caused by the medical model and focuses on the whole person rather than a diagnosis or symptom management approach. Janae works to decolonize treatment and explore how systematic oppression can impact those of color and those from the LGBTQIA2s+ communities. Janae also practices an affirming, open-minded sex-positive approach to individual and couples work to explore how everyone chooses to express their sexuality, gender identity and romantic practices. Furthermore, as a therapist herself, Janae has a passion to support other individuals in the mental health field to support burn out and career/professional/personal development as we are often forget to help ourselves the same way we support our clients.
Janae, a southern California native, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist under the Board of Behavioral Sciences of California. She is also an Out-of-State Telehealth Provider - Marriage and Family Therapist with the state of Florida Department of Health. She earned her Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Azusa Pacific University with an emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy, after completing her undergrad in Psychology from Missouri Valley College with a minor in Drug and Alcohol Studies.
As an identified Mexican American Queer Gender Non Conforming provider (she/her), Janae considers herself a wounded healer and pulls from a tool kit that she has not just learned professionally but utilized personally in her personal recovery journey. Janae is a human first and will often use humor, authenticity and unconditional support to connect to her clients as Janae believes that the therapeutic relationship is very important tool in the healing process.
She has maintained a private practice along side working with organizations for 3 years until recently going full time in 2022 into private practice world where she can dedicate her time for opportunities to benefit the LGBTQ+, Latinx and BIPOC individuals and couples in different roles such as students, athletes, actors, entertainers, artists, mental health professionals, and entrepreneurs.
