Janae's approach is empowering and holistic as Janae believes in the connection between one's mind, body and soul. Furthermore, Janae believes in individualized and alternative approaches to healing as everyone should be able to individually identify their road to recovery.
Janae specifically acknowledges the harm caused by the medical model and focuses on the whole person rather than a diagnosis or symptom management approach. Janae works to decolonize treatment and explore how systematic oppression can impact those of color and those from the LGBTQIA2s+ communities. Janae also practices an affirming, open-minded sex-positive approach to individual and couples work to explore how everyone chooses to express their sexuality and identity.
Janae believes all individuals are designed to have the resources necessary to manage life's struggles. Janae empowers individuals to embrace struggle, and overcome future challenges by building resilience in clients. She collaboratively works with each client to process difficult emotions, reduce unwanted habits & develop your skillset to live a happier life, and become your most authentic self. Furthermore, her goals are to foster self-acceptance and love in a world where individuals often find validation outside of themselves.
Janae, a southern California native, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist under the Board of Behavioral Sciences of California. She earned her Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Azusa Pacific University with an emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy, after completing her undergrad in Psychology from Missouri Valley College with a minor in Drug and Alcohol Studies.
As an identified Mexican American Queer (Latinx) provider Janae enjoys serving those who identify as LGBTQIA2s+, Latinx and BIPOC along with athletes. Janae considers herself a wounded healer
and pulls from a tool kit that she has not just learned professionally but utilized personally in her personal recovery journey. Janae is a human first and will often use humor, authenticity and unconditional support to connect to her clients as Janae believes that the therapeutic relationship is very important tool in the healing process.
During her clinical experience, she provided individual, group, couples and family counseling services along with crisis management services in settings such as community mental health, hospital, jail, school and private settings at all levels of care . She has also provided telephonic counseling, consultation, crisis management, and referral coordination to human resources, employers, and employees as part of an EAP and Behavioral Health department with Anthem insurance company. She has maintained a private practice along side working with organizations for 3 years until recently going full time into private practice world where she can dedicate her time for opportunities to benefit the LGBTQ+, Latinx and BIPOC communities.
Janae has been practicing since 2012 and considers herself to be a Wounded Healer as she pulls from her personal and professional experiences to better serve those she works with. She is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Certified EMDR provider, and Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional. Janae continues to provide Disruptive Event Management Services to workplaces and groups in response to a disruptive event. She enjoys supporting other professionals a she helps in the development of future therapists as she provides Clinical Mentorship and business development to other development therapist. Janae also has a passion to utilize her experience to consult, run workshops and engage in speaker events to reach those she is unable to reach in her therapy work.
